Improve your Curb Appeal!
First Impressions:
As many as 49% of home buyers decide whether or not to look
inside a house based on it's curb appeal (the view they see when
they drive by or arrive for a showing). Improving curb appeal
is critical for generating traffic. It needn't be difficult or
expensive but it will take time and work. Think neat and
neutral.
Front Entrance:
-
Put out a nice
welcome mat and place yellow flowers near (or at) the porch
entry. The color yellow draws the eye and gives a warm
feeling.
-
Make sure your
house numbers are prominently displayed and can be seen from
the street.
-
Paint or replace
mailbox.
-
Paint, clean or
stain the front door and add a wreath or brass door knocker.
-
Make sure door
bell and exterior lights are working.
-
Clean Screens and
remove if they don't fit.
-
Create the look
of a safe harbor by installing exterior light fixtures if
there are none.
Lawn and Yard:
-
Trim the
vegetation around your home.
-
Remove dead limbs
and debris from shrubs and trees.
-
Cut any limbs
touching roof
-
Cut lawn weekly
making sure to water and keep weeds down with spray.
-
Rake leaves and
sweep sidewalks.
-
Clean, repair
(and/or touch-up with paint) all fences
-
Store law
equipment toys and other outdoor items away neatly.
-
Board dog or
other large pets with neighbors while showing the house.
Keep in mind that some people are afraid of, or allergic to
some animals.
-
Reseed or sod
patchy lawn areas.
-
If able, add a
few flower beds with attractive edging for a welcoming,
homey, appearance.
**Remember if a lawn isn't attractive, or looks like it would
require too much work to get in in shape, many buyers will keep
on driving**
Roof, Windows and
Siding:
-
Clean and repair
windows and gutters.
-
Pressure wash
vinyl siding.
-
Repair loose
shingles and flashing on roof.
-
Clean and pain
siding as needed.
-
Paint window
sashes, trim and shutters.
